Celebrating325yearsof innovative
Swedish engineering
S
ince starting out in 1689, Husqvarna, now part of the
Husqvarna Group, hasmanufactured a wide range of qual-
ityproducts. Excellent engineering skills, a strong entrepre-
neurial spirit and a passion for quality products has led to
innovative solutions, successfully taking the company frommanu-
facturingweapons to today’s cutting-edgeoutdoor power products.
“For 325 years Husqvarna has developed and manufactured qual-
ity products, to help users achieve great results. Going forward, we
will continue to challenge the existing solutions and deliver high
performance products with the needs of the user in mind,” says
Mr Dylan Lane,managingdirector of HusqvarnaSouthAfrica.
Our heritage
In the late1600’s, thewars that ragedacrossEurope resulted inan in-
crease inSweden’sweapons production. Hydropower was required
in themanufacturingprocess, so in1689, adrillingworkswas estab-
lishedbeside thewater falls inHuskvarna, southernSweden (at that
time spelled Husqvarna), where many products are still produced
today.
As theneed forweaponsdeclined, the companybranchedout into a
whole new set of products ranging from sewingmachines, hunting
weapons, wood stoves, mincing machines, bicycles, motorcycles,
gas stoves,microwaveovens andmuchmore.
Environmental and ergonomic concerns
Husqvarna’s earlywayof “thinkingoutside thebox”, iswell exempli-
fiedby thedevelopment of Husqvarna’s first chainsaw.
Existing chainsaws at the time caused problems with noise pollu-
tion. By usingmotorcyclemuffler technology, whichwas developed
in-house, the noise level of the Husqvarna 90 was cut down to half
of that of the contemporary competition. Soon afterwards, this so-
lution was followed by new inventions such as anti-vibration that
prevented “vibrationwhite fingers” disease and the first automated
chainbrake.
Throughout the years, Husqvarna has proved its technological lead-
ership by introducing groundbreaking and awardwinning solutions
andproductswith a stronguser focus:
X-Torq

lations.
AutoTune™, a technological and environmental breakthrough in
professional chainsaws,whichminimisesexhaust emissionsand
optimises engine performance, omitting the need to spend time
on carburettor adjustments.
Battery powered products offering petrol performance: Light-
weight, quiet and free fromdirect emissions.
Robotic mowers: Quiet, self-operating mowers that frees up
time for homeowners and facility managers, produce no direct
emissions duringuse and consume very little energy.
Demolition robots for the construction industry: Equippedwith
a remote control, they enable demolition tasks in areaswhere it
