When it comes to modern day on-seed applications, precision is
everything especially since the dose rates of products are ever-de-
creasing. The lower the dose, the more accurate you have to be. For
example, in order to have adequate soil insect protection on maize,
we treat seeds to have 0,48 mg of active ingredient of Poncho® on
every single seed.
Thus, we treat seeds to the same tolerances as in pharmaceuticals.

Quality assessments
Since quality is such a key issue in seed treatment, we develop test
methods for seeds; assess loading and dosage of active ingredients,
seed-to-seed distribution, flow ability and plant ability, invest to
improve dust management and slurry recipes and conduct germi-
nation and physiological studies both in the field and in our own
specialist labs.
Development support
By closely co-operating and interacting with seed companies, seed
treaters, industrials and semi-industrials, we help to optimise devel-

Stewardship
At Bayer SeedGrowth we take stewardship very seriously through
environmental profiles, operator safety training, certification and
communication. One concrete example of how stewardship is prac-
ticed at Bayer SeedGrowth comes from our successful efforts to limit
dust-off through improving the stick ability of film coatings (e.g. via
improved product formulations), through tests on application equip-
ment at our advanced equipment department in Minneapolis, USA,
through controlling dust during planting via modifications to drilling
equipment and through educating operators, customers, seed com-
panies and seed treaters on dust-off issues.
In the end, all of this comes together at harvest time, when giving a
crop its best possible start goes a long way to achieving high qual-
ity, bumper yielding harvests. But this only realises when you have
