Care of samples
Place all nematode samples in plastic bags in a cooler bag to prevent
drying. Do not expose samples to direct sunlight or other sources
of heat or leave them exposed in the field or in a vehicle on very hot
days. Keep samples in a cool place at all times. Do not wrap roots or
any other plantmaterial in damp tissue. Leave rootswith soil in a bag.
Place other plantmaterial in a separate plastic bag. Transport samples
incool boxesor insulatedcontainers, store incool placeor refrigerator
at10°C -15°Candprocesssampleswithinaweekorassoonaspossible.
Label and information
Place a label in a plastic bag and attach it either inside or outside
thebag.
Indicate thenameandaddressof the farmer aswell as thenameof
the collector and the cropplant.
Indicate thepreviousnematodeorotherpest-relatedproblemsand
controlmeasures implemented.
Indicate the croppinghistoryof the field.
Name the fertilisers, pesticides andherbicides applied.
Name the sourceofwater usedandanyother relevant information.
Dispatching of samples
Dispatchsamples tightlypacked incoolerboxesor incardboardboxes.
Label containers clearly with the name and address of the consignee
and the sender. Attachwarning signs, such as “Handlewith care”.
