Jannie receives accolade
Mr Jannie de Villiers (CEO: Grain SA) is the Agricul-
tural Writers SA North’s Agriculturist of the Year for
the Gauteng area.
The Agricultural Writers SA North acknowledged out-
standing achievements of three commercial producers
– a new entrant into commercial agriculture and four
agricultural personalities. These awards were handed
over on 21 October in Pretoria.
The candidates will all go through to the national awards ceremony of the
Agricultural Writers SA in Pretoria on 11 November where the national
farmer, new entrant into commercial agriculture and agriculturist of the
year will be announced.

The overall year to date combine harvester sales are approximately
19% down from last year. This was in response to the significantly
lower summer crop production in the 2015/2016 season, compared
to the previous season.

Net toe ons dink dat die reën dié seisoen sukkel om sy pad te vind, trek die sluise van die hemel oop en word somergraanprodusente in die
week van 17 Oktober met die eerste reënneerslae verras. Berigte van tot soveel soos 26 mm is ontvang. Al is die reën later as gewoonlik,
verwag weerkenners steeds ‘n bogemiddelde seisoen.
Just when we thought that the rain was struggling to find its way this season, the heavens opened up and summer grain producers were
surprised with the first rainfall during the week of 17 October. Reports of as much as 26 mm were received. Even though the rain is
later than usual, weather experts still expect an above average season.
