Growing our financial services offerings

Through UNIGRO, AFGRI offers tailor-made, yet competitive, finan-

cial services that are easy to understand and transparently ad-

ministered. This includes convenient access to funding through the

ground-breaking e-accounts platform, which provides real-time

transactional capability and access to relevant account informa-

tion. To date there are over 2 000 registered users, who made over

R6 billion in payments on e-accounts in 2018, reflecting exponential

growth in payments. The platform has been a major differentiator

and competitive advantage for us.

The e-accounts system was originally focused on lending but

can subsequently deliver a much wider range of products and

services. It now provides access to rainfall measurements which

clients can access via a smartphone or tablet. Besides the other

unique features of e-accounts, UNIGRO Financial Services also

developed a system that connects with the e-platform where

clients can view their insurance policy information, apply and

receive cover information. Claims and requests for adjustments to

their current policy documentation can also be submitted.

We also offer a range of insurance products, including short-

term and life insurance, tailored specifically to producers and busi-

nesses operating in the agricultural sector.

UNIGRO Insurance Brokers is excited to launch the new app,

UNI-HELP. This is good news for loyal clients, as well as prospective

clients that want to be part of this new development. All clients are

invited to download the app from the App Store or Play Store on their

smart devices to benefit from the programme’s unique and exciting

assistance and lifestyle benefits, including Roadside Assist, My Legal

Hand, Home Maintenance Assist, Emergency Services Notification,

Protect Me and Home Assist to name a few.

Exploring new frontiers through technology

Internally, the AFGRI Technology Services (ATS) team has a focus

on AgTech too. The team is engaging with our producers to keep

them apprised of the latest innovation in this field, and to develop

our own AgTech solutions appropriate for their needs. ATS aims to

be the catalyst of innovation and technology-enabled solutions to

drive sustainable agricultural growth across the African and global

agricultural value chain.

Of course, partnerships and innovation are not limited to finan-

cial services, and each of AFGRI’s other clusters – AFGRI Equipment,

AFGRI Grain Management and Lemang Agricultural Services – has

embraced this approach with their own clients to deepen relation-

ships and to expand service and product offerings.

Over 5 million tons of storage capacity…

AFGRI Grain Management is a world leader in the handling and

storage of grains and oilseeds, offering secure storage at more than

100 operational points throughout South Africa, Congo-Brazzaville,

Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Zambia. The AFGRI Grain

App is the latest feature from Grain Management and part of the

e-accounts platform, giving clients sight of their grain deliveries at

all the silos in real time and conveniently on a multitude of devices.

The largest single John Deere franchise

outside of North America

AFGRI Equipment supplies mechanised equipment tailored to meet

the needs of the producer through the largest single John Deere fran-

chise in Africa and in Western Australia, where it has over 40 strategi-

cally-locatedbranches. Weareable to support producers withmobile

servicing and maintenance workshops, ensuring effortless man-

agement of an agricultural fleet. Workshops are manned by highly

qualified personnel, accredited by John Deere. The exceptional

relationship that has been established with John Deere spans

56 years – talk about a long-standing relationship.

In addition to the John Deere franchise, AFGRI Equipment also

stocks and supplies other franchises, including Dewulf, IMAC and

Standen potato equipment, which will once again be on display at

the AFGRI stand at the NAMPO Harvest Day 2019.

New era farmer support

Lemang Agricultural Services is aimed at developing commercial

black farmers in South Africa and is specifically aimed at support-

ing large farmers ready to take the final steps towards becoming

full-scale commercial producers. The programme assists farmers

through theoretical training, mentorship, as well as technical advice

over a five-year period. Our successes run deep and importantly, are

sustainable thanks to intensive mentorship, training, guidance and

the care entrenched in our service ethic.
