Grain SA, SANSOR and various seed companies formed a consortium to conduct the past production season’s (2019/20) maize cultivar evaluation trials. The primary objective of the trials is to provide producers, seed companies and agricultural advisers with independent, unbiased, and scientifically accurate information on the performance and adaptability of maize cultivars. Data is compared and presented relative to the current commercial cultivars grown in the producer's areas.
The correct choice of cultivars, considering the diverse climatic conditions, is of utmost importance to producers as it affects yield.Through supporting producers in their choice of adaptable cultivars, optimum yields can be obtained and the risk for yield losses can be managed better.
All cultivars entered into the trials were coded enabling the seed companies to receive coded trial packs, without any company-related information, ensuring anonymity across all regions.
