CANCELLATION OF NAMPO CAPE 2020

03 Jul 2020

The management of NAMPO Cape, Bredasdorp Park NPC, after discussions with partners Grain SA, the authorities and stakeholders decided to cancel NAMPO Cape 2020.

The final decision regarding the NAMPO Cape Agricultural Show would have initially been announced at the end of July with the hope of a better indication of the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequences for mass events. Unfortunately, the difficult, yet responsible decision, had to be made sooner, thus avoiding the possible cancellation of the show at short notice.

NAMPO Cape has been a hugely successful agricultural event in the Overberg for the past two years, but the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the whole world to find newer and more innovative ways to do business.

At present, there is no indication what the situation and legislation will be around mass events in September, and the NAMPO Cape management cannot reduce or completely mitigate visitor risk in any way.

The cancellation of NAMPO Cape 2020 follows only a few days after the 2020 NAMPO Harvest Day has been cancelled. Both organisers, Bredasdorp Park NPC and Grain SA are of the opinion that the uncertainties regarding the permission of mass gatherings may still be under discussion as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The earlier announcement of the cancellation also averts NAMPO Cape exhibitors from making further preparations and give these exhibitors the opportunity to, with the NAMPO Bothaville exhibitors, form part of the excitement that the newly announced NAMPO Virtual promises.

Grain SA would like to give all NAMPO exhibitors an opportunity to leverage a platform where business and marketing of products can be done with producers and the wider public. Any interested exhibitors who wish to participate in the first NAMPO Virtual, from 9-12 September 2020 from 09:00 to 19:00 and Saturday from 09:00 to 14:00, are encouraged to contact the NAMPO office.

Arrangements for NAMPO Cape 2021 will also kick off soon, where exhibitors and visitors can be assured of an agricultural show in the Overberg that will offer a continuation of the growth and quality of presentation they have become accustomed to.
