11 Sep 2008Venezuela is no tiger to tackle bare-handed. The South American republic, which derives 90% of its income from oil, is headed by President Hugo Ch?vez, who plans to straighten out his country with "21st-century socialism".
There is much to straighten out. There's a huge income disparity between rich and poor. The land is a thoroughfare for drug-dealing between Colombia, the USA and Europe. The abuse of women and children for sex tourism is a cause for concern, according to the CIA's world factbook.
Human rights groups accuse Ch?vez of supporting Colombian drug terrorists.
Ch?vez recently visited South Africa, and the two countries are now open for business, with an emphasis on energy. This is where the state-controlled oil company PetroSA enters the picture.
