According to the Department of Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), moths collected in traps in the Western Cape towards the middle and end of May 2018 were positively identified as FAW.
Trapping should be extended to small grain farms at Napier and Caledon, Malmesbury, Mooreesburg, Piketberg, Clanwilliam, Vredendal – to determine how far the moth has spread through the province. Earlier in May reports were made that FAW was also detected near George in the Western Cape.
