Making and shooting
Christmas memories
T
he festive season is a wonderful
time to take family photographs.
Photographer Kristen Duke shares
the following ideas on how to shoot
special family memories:
Explain to the family what you are plan-
ning and how long it will take. Take wa-
ter and snacks along if you are going to
a different location.
Dress up. Put on Christmas hats or
choose a colour theme.
Make a list of poses to bring variety to
your photographs and to keep young
children from becoming bored – walk,
jump, crouch, kneel.
Don’t expect everyone to look at the
camera, so choose a pose where they
hold hands and look at each other, hug
or tickle one another.
New theme for 2018
We would like to thank all photographers
who entered their amazing photographs
into this year’s competition. A new year
means a new theme and for 2018 our theme
will be symbiosis.
The Greek translation is
cohabitation
+
bios
= life, which literally means ‘living together’
and refers to any direct and intimate rela-
tionship between two organisms of differ-
ent species. So, get your camera ready and
start snapping!

The previous winner, Piet Lombard from
Elsenburg, was the winner of the November
competition. He received R1 500 for his
photograph of the patterns caused by
contour banks in the Swartland.

a tender moment between a farmer in the making and some lambs.
The photograph entitled, ‘Plaas-hanslammers met Mischa Batt’ won
her the first prize of R1 500.
This photograph proves that beauty is in the eye of the
beholder. Celesti-Mari Wasserman from Dorandia in
Pretoria sent in ‘Rustic and beautiful’ and was awarded
the second place.
The third place also goes to this month’s winner, Chrismari,
who captured driller, Andries Volgraaff, at work.
