W
e started out making chainsaws, so let’s begin
there! The brand-new MS 500i chainsaw is the
first in the world to use Stihl Injection Technology
instead of a carburettor. With more horse power
than dry weight (6,8 horse power versus 6,2 kg),
this impressive model has been designed for the
harvesting and processing of heavy timber. It has the best power-to-
weight ratio on the market, yet is still fuel efficient, thanks to the fuel
injection system.
A tried and tested champion is the MS 382 chainsaw, the en-
hanced version of the MS 381, previously South Africa’s best-selling
chainsaw. Stihl constantly upgrades its machines and the powerful
yet lightweight (6,2 kg) MS 382 works faster and harder. This 3,8-kW
machine is ergonomic with an excellent power-to-weight ratio and
combines professional-grade performance with outstanding fuel
consumption – up to 20% less than previous models, thanks to the
improved low emission 2-MIX motor.
Another popular model is the MS 310, the multilaterally classic
and robust 3,2 kW petrol chainsaw with anti-vibration system, which
is ideal for a wide variety of sawing jobs on farms, in orchards and in
domestic gardens.
Our MS 250 chainsaw has an exceptional power-to-weight
ratio and is light enough for smaller tasks like clearing or cleaning up
while packing a powerful enough punch to cut through small limbs
and trees.
An essential fire management tool
The BR 700 magnum blower is an enhanced, more powerful version
of the popular BR 600 backpack blower. It can remove potential-
ly dangerous natural matter from around rocks and roots, ensures
that firebreaks are clear, and creates new fire lines by blowing away
flammable debris. It also clears dry earth mineral firebreaks. While
the BR 700 isn’t a single fire-fighting tool, it can replace beaters on
a fire line and is useful in managing cold fires and when control is
needed while clearing a line for back burning.
Get digging!
Our BT 131 petrol auger is a robust yet lightweight one-man machine
and is essential for fencing and pit digging. The powerful 36,3 cc
4-MIX engine combines the advantages of a 4-stroke engine with a
2-stroke fuel mix for lower fuel consumption, fewer emissions, quieter
operation, impressive engine power and higher torque. The large
fuel tank allows for longer run times with less downtime for refuel-
ling, while the long-life air filter system and 2-stroke petrol mix reduce
servicing intervals. The Quickstop
®
drill brake, triggered by the oper-
ator’s thigh, stops the machine should the drill bit jam in the ground,
and the advanced vibration dampening system and oversized hip
pad increase operator comfort and reduce fatigue.
New to the local market is the BT 230 one-man auger, a light-
weight yet powerful machine specially designed for the emerging
market – it is robust and uncomplicated to operate and maintain.
With impressive drilling power in the 40-cc displacement class, the
BT 230 has a sturdy support frame that can be fitted to numerous
Stihl augers for flexibility. The 10,9 kg frame is compact and light-
weight for added mobility and ease-of-handling in the field. This
auger produces holes up to 30 cm in diameter.
Don’t beat about the bush
Stihl has a range of robust brushcutters for heavy duty workloads,
ideal for removing bramble, dense thickets, weeds and tough grass,
as well as simple mowing. These machines are
highly popular with municipalities because of
their effective performance, tough take-any-
thing design and easy maintenance.
Try the power of going cordless
More and more professionals are moving to bat-
tery-powered models as word gets out that these
machines are lightweight and robust, with the
performance of petrol models plus the added
benefits of being low noise, zero emission and
totally mobile. Since there is no fuel, there is no
downtime for mixing and the brushless motors
require minimal servicing. All the models use ad-
vanced lithium-ion batteries that can be charged
and partially re-charged several hundred times
without any significant loss of capacity.
